Ataka Yūzan (Ataka Takeshi) was born January 25, 1931.
A graduate of Kyoto University, he studied Tozan-ryū shakuhachi under Hoshida Ichizan I, achieving the rank of Dai-Shihan and the title Chikurin-ken.
During a career that spanned more than 40 years, he was Vice-president of the Osaka Prefecture Branch of the Tozan-ryū, a member of the Tozan-ryū Centennial Commemoration Committee, appointed as a member of the Shihan and Jun-Shihan Examination Committee Member more than ten times, and elected to the Tozan-ryū Council multiple times.
