The 27th Shakuhachi Summer Camp of the Rockies TBD. [ Annual Event ]We hosted annual camps at Sunrise Ranch in Loveland Colorado, had virtual and hybrid camps during the pandemic, and even held camps in two international locations - both Sydney ('08) and Kyoto (’12) that were associated with the World Shakuhachi Festivals on-location in those cities. The 2024 Shakuhachi Summer Camp was held in Southern California.
The success of the Shakuhachi Summer Camp of the Rockies over the years is a testament to the wonderful dedication of these amazing musicians and their passion for teaching. Being able to spend concentrated time with these great masters is what makes camp so special.
World Shakuhachi Festival 2025 Texas A&M University, College Station, Texas. 04/17 2025 - 04/20 2025
From April 17~20, 2025, the College of Performance, Visualization, and Fine Arts at Texas A&M University (College Station, Texas) will host the eighth incarnation of the World Shakuhachi Festival. WSF 2025 will feature a diverse range of music from these genres in concerts, workshops, lectures, exhibitions, masterclasses, and informal gatherings. Participants can learn from and experience the artistry of the most consummate shakuhachi artists in the world and be inspired by the endless possibilities inherent in this simple bamboo flute.
WSF 2025 is the eighth major international shakuhachi festival to be held since the original 1994 WSF convened in Bisei, Okayama Prefecture, Japan. Subsequent festivals have been held in Boulder, Tokyo, New York, Sydney, Kyoto and London. Holding the festival in the heartland of Texas acknowledges and celebrates the fact that North America is a firmly established territory for the shakuhachi with substantial representation of various schools, styles, and approaches to the instrument and its repertoire.
